Description
From more than 150 years our family produced wine from "Candia" vineyards of Apuan hills. We winified only grapes that grow in our vineyards.
Our production includes white wine DOC "Candia" of Apuan hills, white and red IGT Toscana wines and also sparkling wine, grappa, olive's oil, vinegard, acacia and chestnut's honey.
From the producer's passion was born “Federico I- L'appassito”, prepares with white grapes dried under the Mediterranean sun which only after 25 months of maturation time in bottle seems ready, harmonic and intriguing.
The farm house next to Podere Scurtarola is opened all year round; on booking we prepare interesting tastings: all our specialities will be coupled with wines of our production.
All of our wines are availabled for rent and tasting.
The Enterprise: In the local dialect Scurtarola means “short-cut”.
Even today the “path of the shortcut, as it joins other footpaths along candia's vineyard, still connects Massa's suburbs with Carrara.
On the top of the first slope we find the great-grandfather Federico's house. The farm is extending over a soil of over 5 hectars, located in hill, and these are, for old tradition, cultivated to vineyard.
A sandy soil with quartzes, feldspars, siltstones, a microclimate favoured by the sea and by the exposition to the sun, becomes the Azienda Agricola Podere Scurtarola an excellent area for the productione of Candia dei Colli Apuani, of white and red wines.
To value traditionals vine is the main objective of the farm.
The farm is on the top of Gioiello hill, in the area of Candia hills, pine-wood, heather, junipers and myrtle covered , between terracings build as 2000 years ago by "todiche" turfs.
Hier, the grapevine, diping roots in these stratifications of sandstones and clays, drow out water and a lot of minerals, that change into the wines in deep flavours and in unmistakable bouquets.
Through a scrupulous observance of wine making, from centuries, by these grapes produced Candia's wines. Podere Scurtarola vinify only grapes growing in its vineyards.
The farm makes also spearwood and chestnut's honey, oil, grappa and Spumante.
